Our History

In loving memory of Richard “Dick” Gauer

Dick was born February 21, 1923 and was a native of CA. He founder A-1 Spring Service in Oakland, CA in 1950. He was a member of Chabot-East Oakland Kiwanis Club for 43 years, serving as President, Secretary and Treasurer. He served in the U. S. Naval Air Corps from 1943-1946 and was a member of the American Legion for over fifty years.

In 1976 Dick gave a kid from 83rd Ave. (Ruben) a chance to work for him. Fast forward almost a half-decade and A-1 Springs Service has become an intitution in Oakland and beyond.

A-1 Spring Service has been part of Oakland’s diverse community for over 7 decades, handing down skills and knowledge from generation to generation. Our open-door policy means that you are welcome to visit us at our shop and see why A-1 Spring Service is an Oakland institution.
